Alternative search widget (by Frank)

Some things I'd do different:

- Don't show that much details in default view. Catalog selection and things like file size could be accessible via an "advanced" button (or later, if we have that in KDE4, a label "show advanced options", see Gnome save file dialog for an example).

- Make the results a HTMLPart instead of a list. The HTML output could also include the text surrounding the match as internet search engines do it. Using HTML offers more possibilities to display results in an informative way. (On the other hand, a listview is easier to navigate)

Here's some mockups:

Here's the complex mode, showing up when clicking "Options >>". The stuff shown in the advanced area is horribly designed, it's just to illustrate the basic idea what to put there.

I couldn't agree more with you! The first default view must be as simple as possible! That's the key to googles early success. So these mockups are very, very good :-) --Liquidat 22:06, 9 Oct 2005 (CEST)
